Red Rubber Designs: Congrats!

Hi All,

The theme this week at Red Rubber Designs is graduation/good luck.  I decided to do a bright and fun card this week.  I am featuring 2 stamp sets Transportation and Savvy Sayings.  The designer cardstock is Hip Hop - love the colors in this collection.  Hip Hop is 9x9" cardstock, 11 different patterns and 1 sheet of die cuts.
The card was stamped on premium white cardstock with Giverny Green Palette ink.  The fun purple-blue-green dots are pieces from the die cut sheet included in the Hip Hop collection.  I popped the circles out, then I used the outline frame to draw the wheels on black cardstock.  They happened to be the perfect size.

Little Miss Muffet: Agent Cupcake 2

Today at Little Miss Muffet Challenge Blog, the Design Team has an inspiration post.  We are mid-challenge, so you have 1 more week to enter your "April Showers" themed projects into the challenge.  You can use any image, although if you use a LMM image the card doesn't need to follow the challenge theme.  I think that is an awesome incentive to use a LMM image.

This is Agent Cupcake Spotted.  There are 3 in the Agent Cupcake series and you can get them at a discount if you buy the combo pack.  That's what I did - I love a deal.  I used Agent Cupcake Descending in my first post for the LMM DT back on March 29th.  So I have one more to use.
I carried on the theme and colors from my 1st card.  These 2 patterned papers are also from Simple Stories "Awesome" which is a new release this Spring.  For the first card Agent Cupcake was repelling down with a jute "rope".  I added a coil of "rope" to her side {actually the back with a glue dot}.  I thought that was a fun detail.

Also, the LMM DT really rocks the coloring, you may have noticed, I've been taking notes.  I attempted adding the bridge of the nose on this card.  This image is a perfect one to try this on since her head is tilted.  Plus with Copics you can 'erase' it if you don't like it and try again.  I started out light with E21, then added E11, the E13.  These images are SO fun to color.

Red Rubber Designs: End of School

Hi All,

This week the theme at Red Rubber Designs is "End of School".  I thought a teacher's Thank You gift would fit the theme.

I made a purse shaped card, a fun shape with a surprise inside.  I used Cha Cha patterned cardstock - the pattern and shape of the purse is somewhat retro.
The closure for the purse is a yellow fabric flower, green button and flower shaped gem.  I used a self-adhesive velcro fastener to keep the purse closed.  And here is the surprise inside...
It is a combination pop up card and gift card holder.  Isn't it a cool idea?  I color scheme for this card was based on the gift card I had.  Both patterned papers are from the Cha Cha collection.  I decided to put the brighter pattern inside because I have purses with fun fabric liners.  That was my inspiration there.

I saw the idea HERE but put my own twist on it.  There are lots of great ideas on this site.  It is amazing what Google will find for you - I searched "gift card holder ideas".

It is 2 pieces that I sewed together creating a pocket for the gift card.  A square or rectangular version would be easier, but the purse shape wasn't bad.

It is a 4.25" high and 5.5" wide at the bottom - normal A2 size.  The flap that creates the pocket is 1.5".  The front flap of the purse is 2".  I cut and scored the 2 pieces then folded and lined everything up like it would be when put together.  Then, at the top fold I marked 1" in from the edge on either side.  I cut from that mark to the bottom corner - cutting all the layers so the angles all match up perfect.
I used a couple of tags from the Cha Cha collection die cut sheet for the sentiment.  The stamp set is For Everything.  This is a great set.  I use the 'Thank You' a lot.

I think this is a fun idea for any occasion.  The possibilities are endless.

Mabelle RO: Amelie

Hi Everyone!

Mabelle has a new release today!  There are SO many cute new images. This is one of them - her name is Amelie.  Isn't she lovely?
I used the April "I Love Sketches" layout for this card.  The designer papers, all 3 patterns, are My Mind's Eye "Howdy Doody".  One of my new favs from the Spring releases.  Stitching was added to all 3 panels and arranged similarly to the sketch.
The flower could be colored as part of a head band, but I decided to make it a hat.  I think she looks cute with a hat. I colored her in some of my favorite colors - blues and greens.
To add some interest, I popped the 2 flowers and the 2 leaves and added a ribbon with a flower shaped button.  The coral red was chosen for the flowers to match the patterned paper.

Take a look at all the design team blogs and what they created for today's new release.

Little Miss Muffet - April Showers

Happy Thursday!

There is a new challenge at Little Miss Muffet - April Showers.  I chose to feature Paprika.  She is from the Sugar 'n Spice line.

I was going for bright and colorful - kids rain slickers usually are pretty colorful.  I don't think I could get much brighter than Miss Moxie cardstock.  Don't you love the kitties on her boots?

I used a sketch #46 from Deconstructed Sketch.  I'm a bit late for the challenge, but I liked the sketch so I decided to use it anyway.

Red Rubber Designs: Mother's Day

Happy Tuesday!

This week the Red Rubber Design Team is posting Mother's Day cards or projects. It is that time of the year to start thinking about it, especially if you need to order some supplies.

Today, I used Mother's Face which is a beautiful poem or ode to mothers and Majestic Mountain because the poem refers to flowers, majestic mountains, forests, fields and streams.  I thought the 2 images were perfect for each other.
I started with some Aspen (golden colored) cardstock from the Natural cardstock assortment.  I stamped the Majestic Mountain scene with Water Lilly Palette ink which is part of the Monet cube set.  I actually inked up the stamp and stamped on some white paper first then stamped on the Aspen cardstock.  This gave the near perfect shade of blue-green to match the Hemmingway patterned cardstock.

Then with Burnt Umber Palette ink (part of the Escher cube set) I inked the Mother's face stamp and stamped over the Majestic Mountain image.  I used embossing ink and covered the stamp image with clear embossing powder.  I embossed the entire image and repeated with 2 more layers.  You can see that I cracked it only a couple times.
This is a picture of my second try - the first one I did 6 layers of clear embossing powder and I shattered it totally.  It was really hard to see the mountain scene and read the verse so I redid it with less layers and less cracking.  Although the shattered glass affect was really cool.  Note - if you put it in the freezer for a bit it really cracks well.  I got that tip from Meredith who reminded me of this fun technique in her post last week.  Thanks Meredith!

There lots of layering with this card - 9 - it is actually very front heavy. I used 3 cardstock papers from Hemmingway, the teal, dark brown and diamond pattern. Added some lovely lace and some amber rhinestones (gems and diamonds are also mentioned in the poem) to complete the Mother's Day card.

Overall, I think it all came together nicely.  I think my mom or mother-in-law would love this card.

Softpencil Studios - Hop

Ready to Hop??

Today we are having a celebration hop for Elizabeth the illustrator and owner of Softpencil Studios.  She has opened a digi shop and has a brand new line featuring her TinyTwinies characters.  I'm featuring Sunny the Gardener.

See the whole new line of digis HERE.

What great digi SALE going on!

I had SO much fun with this image!   It is colored with Copic markers {B12, B21, B23, RV04, RV09, RV19, YG11, YG13, YG23, YG63, YR12, YR15, YR18, E53, E55, E57, N1, N3, N4, 0}.

I pulled all the colors from the patterned paper {Mia's Cottage cardstock}.  The cloud background is patterned paper from A|Muse Studios.  The grass was cut with an A|Muse die.

I cut out the image and layered it on the background I created with the cloud paper and grass die cut.  Sunny's head with floppy ear {Love that ear!} and the flower are popped with pop dots.

I added some Mia's Cottage ribbon loops and a button threaded with white floss.  I curled the floss around the tip of my paper piercer.

You should have some from Michelle's blog and the next stop on the hop is Heather.  If you are lost or just starting, here is the full hop list...

RRD Tutorial: Sydney Mini Album

One of my design team responsibilities for Red Rubber Designs is creating a tutorial every other month.  This month, I have a project tutorial to share - using the Sydney Mini Album Kit.

The tutorials can be found on the RRD blog with a link to a downloadable pdf of the instructions.

My tutorial shows what is in the Sydney kit, gives some tips and then shows a mini album I created with the kit.  I tried to use at least one of each of the die cut embellishments that come in the kit so you can see them.  There are tags, tabs, brackets (not shown), flowers, buckles, corner elements...
You can complete a lovely project in a few hours because so much of the work is done for you.

All the die cuts are double-sided cardstock and pop out without scissors.

Go the RRD blog to see the project in its entirety.

RRD - Grand Opening Blog Hop

It is Red Rubber Designs Grand Opening and to celebrate we are having a blog hop!  The Design Team is featuring the stamp set "Life of the Party".  I can't wait to see what everyone did with this set.

I used RRD's Patterned Cardstock "Catelynne" for this card.  All three patterned papers are from Catelynne.  I pulled all the colors from this paper line.
There are several layers to this image.  I stamped the image 4 times.   Once on the green patterned paper, 3 times on white cardstock - the base image, the colored image of the woman, and 'life of the party'.

The image of the woman was colored with Copic Markers {E00, E11, E13, E21, R11, R20, R32, 0}.  I cut her out.  For the base image, I colored the woman with the darkest skin tone E13 and color of the dress R32.  Then I used chalk to create the blue background.  I added the green strip of stamped patterned cardstock to the base image.  Then aged the image by sponging the edges with Cognac and Burnt Umber Palette ink.

The Life of the Party sentiment was cut to size, blue chalk was added, then  matted and adhered to the base image.  The woman was then added with pop dots to make her come to life.

A champagne colored bow {Juliette} was added to the corner and the completed image was added to the base card.

Little Miss Muffet - Iris May Hatter

Happy Thursday!

There are new releases at Little Miss Muffet!  I'm featuring Iris May Hatter today.  I said there were new releases today, however you may be thinking you've seen this image before and this is true.  This image is already a digi - what is new is she is now available as a red rubber stamp!  The digi versions will be retiring Sunday, April 15th at 8 pm (CT).

This is day 1 of the new releases for April.  Today, the design team is featuring the hatters now available in rubber.  Friday and Saturday members of the DT will feature images from the Sugar 'n Spice Doll line.  Three days of inspiration from the Little Miss Muffet Design Team.  See all the loveliness HERE.

There is a different giveaway everyday during this new release!  Comment on the DT blogs today and you may win Eleanor May Hatter & "Hatty Birthday" in Rubber!

Friday leave comments and have a chance to win Rosemary and Sugar 'n Spice Sentiments in Rubber.  Saturday - Licorice and Sugar 'n Spice Sentiments in Rubber!

Also, if you grab this badge with code and place it on the side bar of your blog you will be eligible to win the entire NEXT release in digi form.  This badge is really cool - if you use the HTML code it updates with specials and new releases.

I decided to create a simple layout today, only 3 layers.  I used the designer paper Uptown Girl and pulled all the colors from this patterned paper.  The background 4"x5.25" paper is all one piece which makes it so simple to create a quick card.

I thought this paper was perfect for this image.  I know what you are thinking - it is after Easter and she is wearing black shoes.  LOL...that actually did cross my mind when coloring her.  She is a rebel what can I say - those fashion rules probably don't apply anymore anyway.  I'm just dating myself.
Can I just say - her ringlets were SO fun to color.  I've never done black hair before either.  It seemed intimidating to me for whatever reason.  I have to say N1, N3, N4 and N7 Copic markers blend beautifully.

I added a Lacey Oval Nestie die cut to the card.  Cut out my colored image and added her with pop dots.  Then, finished the card with a few self-adhesive pearls on the dies cut and 1 on the purse.

I will be back tomorrow with the LMM rubber stamp Barbara sent me.  It was the one I wanted too.  I had actually already printed out the digi version the evening before it came in the mail.  How did she know??

Little Miss Muffet - Spring Pastels

Today, the Little Miss Muffet Design Team is posting cards using Spring Colors {Pastels}.  I chose the image Riley from the Little Misses collection for this post.

The colors were pulled from a designer paper called "Howdy Doody" which is new from My Mind's Eye.  I used 3 different patterned papers from this collection, the wood grain, floral and pink polka dot.
I paper-pieced her shirt with the pink polka dot paper by printing out the image on normal printer paper then taping the patterned paper onto the printed image.  I loaded it back into the printer and printed the image again. {See a picture tutorial HERE} This time the image printed on the patterned paper. I cut out the shirt and ran it thru my Xyron to make it a sticker then pieced in on my colored image.

The sky background is chalk.  I used an eraser to create the look of clouds. It is very subtle.

Mabelle RO - Spring Garden Chickie

Happy Mabelle Monday!

I have another new digi from Mabelle's Spring/Easter collection - Spring Garden Chickie.  The designer paper is brand new from Simple Stories "Fabulous".  I pulled all the colors from this patterned paper.  The image is colored with Copic markers and I chalked the background.

The image was cut out with Nestabilities Standard Circles.
I added some embossing to the base card with a border embossing folder called Frills from Cuttlebug.  First I used my Scorebuddy to create 2 embossed lines 3" apart to use as a guide for the folder so the embossing would be straight. I line us the edge of the border folder with the embossed line and ran it thru my Cuttlebug, once for the top scallop then again for the bottom scallop.

I added some self adhesive pearls for some added interest.

Supplies--
Cardstock: Bazzill Caribean Breeze, Copic XPress It,
Tools: Cuttlebug embossing folder Frills border, Nestabilities Standard Circles, ScorBuddy
Embellishments: Self Adhesive Pearls
Chalk: I kan'dee Brights
